(1 Timothy 4:8) As any athlete knows, every season in sports—football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball—comes to an end. For young people, when this happens, there’s usually another season—a “next year” for which to look forward, but eventually, even those run out. Our priorities change, our bodies break down, and circumstances outside of our control take over to remind us that, as wonderful as sports can be, they are temporary. Although sports have the power to bring us great happiness, excitement, motivation, and sense of community, in the end, they are only temporary. As Paul tells Timothy, they “only benefit [us] for a short season.” In light of this, Father, I ask You to give ___ an eternal perspective. Through Your Spirit, empower ___ to see beyond the season, to look beyond their sport. Help ___ to maintain the balance between taking advantage of the opportunity sports provide while not relying on them for lasting joy, peace, and purpose. Above all, God, I ask that You would give ___ a hunger and thirst for Your righteousness—that same righteousness that will bring “lasting benefit in everything” and containing “the promise of life, for time and eternity.” Broaden ___’s perspective to see eternity and to, with joy, get on board with all You want to accomplish through their life. Thank You for ___, Lord. Amen.
