(John 16:33) You never promised us an easy life, Lord God. In fact, when You sent Your Son, Jesus, down to Earth to become a man, His life was largely characterized by pain, suffering, trouble, and sorrows. Out of humility and love, Jesus sacrificed His divinity for the sake of saving humanity—and it came at a cost. That’s why, in John 16, Jesus told His disciples that “...in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble.” Father, ___ is facing some of that “trouble and sorrows” right now in service to their country. In the line of active duty, ___ is encountering daily doses of fear, uncertainty, discomfort, loneliness, and pain. But because of You, Lord, we know that pain and suffering is not the end of the story. “Trouble and sorrows” aren’t the end of Jesus’ message to His disciples. No, the final word is this: You have overcome. In Your Spirit of power and victory, You have conquered the world, God. You have defeated sin and death, and in the same way, through You and Your Spirit, ___ can overcome their pain and fears. Remind ___ of that truth today, Lord. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Empower ___ to overcome, to conquer every day, in the name of Jesus. In their darkest hours, Lord, encourage and sustain ___ with the vision of Your Son—the vision of a conquering King overcoming this world in the name of love and restoration. Amen.
