(Ecclesiastes 4:12) God, I’ve always been struck by this verse. Solomon’s word picture in Ecclesiastes 4 always seems to stop me in my tracks. On our own, we are vulnerable; we are limited. As Solomon says in verse 10, “pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” With a friend (or a sibling, or a spouse), we have someone in our corner. We have a confidante to encourage us, strengthen us, and pick us up when we fall. Even in loving relationship, though, people let us down. However, when we are in Christ—when we are grounded in You, Father—we add a “third strand” to the cord. When we find relationship both with other humans and with You, Lord, we find a new strength, perseverance, and power. In light of that, I ask You to surround ___ with a network of support—both in the heavenly realm and here on Earth. Place loyal friends and family in ___’s path. Encourage and strengthen ___ through the words and loyalty of others, especially through the times of darkness and doubt as a minister of Your gospel. And above all, Father, remind ___ that You will never leave them nor forsake them. In every season of ministry, You will continue to walk alongside ___. Thank You for that beautiful truth, Father. Amen.
