(Hebrews 12:11) God, we live in a world of instant gratification. In our brokenness, selfishness, and impatience, not only do we want things beyond our control, but we want them now. We don’t want to wait. We often aren’t willing to put in the work required to reap “a harvest of righteousness and peace” down the road. Too many times, I’ve failed to see the benefit of sacrificing certain pleasures in the present for a plentiful harvest in the future. Yet, through the author of Hebrews, You remind us of the beauty and power of discipline. When we’re intentional and discipline ourselves—especially when that discipline aligns with Your truth—we open doors for blessing, reward, and growth down the road that’s otherwise unattainable. In light of this truth, Father, empower ___ to harness a spirit of discipline in their life. Remind them of the benefits of practice. Show ___ a picture of the potential results from their willingness to work hard now—not just in their sport, but also in life beyond the field. May ___’s discipline in sports set the tone for a life of discipline according to Your Word, Your truth, and Your love. Amen.
